Reading:
Throughout this month we will be reading informational text that focus on a process. The first subject we will be reading about is ice cream- its history and how it is made. Students will be reading two text on this subject and will compare the information they have learned. After we will be reading about popcorn where we will be discussing how to determine the structure of the text.
Math:
In math this month we will be using what we have learned about multiplication and division to help us solve area problems. We will start by learning about rectilinear shapes and how to determine their area. Students will also be presented word problems where they must determine the operations to solve it and explain why they beleve the operation works for the word problem. At the end of the quarter we will be moving on to fractions. Students will be partitioning shapes into equal groups and discussing what exactly is a unit.
