We will be having Reading PARCC from May 13-15
Reading:
During the month of May students will be finishing up their study of traditional tales. After we will be moving on to informational text. The first text is about how Pixar creates movies that are loved universally. Students will be reading an article on the topic and then watching a video. At the end students will be asked to comparte the main ideas of both medias. Then we will be reading biographies about authors to learn about their writing process. Students will be identifying the order of the process and then be asked to compare an author's process with another.
Math.
In math students will be working with word problems with a focus on measurements. First students will learn how to calculate elapsed time and depending on the word problem determine either the start time, elapsed time, or end time. For this, students will be using the strategy of a number line. Then students will be working with word problems that involve grams, kilograms, and liters. Students will learn about mass and volume to solve word problems with these measurements. At the end of the month we will be moving into geometry where students will be identifying and sorting quadrilaterals. They will be using the information about different quadrilaterals to solve for their perimeter.
We will be finishing off the month with an Author's Tea where the students will be sharing their Realistic Fiction stories on May 22nd!
